My name is Olga. I am a tutor of English and Russian languages. I hold the following qualifications, diplomas and certificates: Russian scientific degree of ‘Kandidat of Science’ (comparable to the UK PhD degree); British professional qualification ‘Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ (EastLondonCollege, London, UK); IELTS certificate (2011; IELTS Academic 8.0); Cambridge ESOL CPE certificate (2014; Grade A). My next step is a PhD programme at the University of Leeds (2015-2019; Leeds, UK).
I have been teaching English since 2001. As a tutor of English, I have worked at the Nizhny NovgorodStateLinguisticsUniversity; at the Nizhny Novgorod Branch of the Higher School of Economics; at the Nizhny Novgorod language schools ‘Lingua Service Centre’ and ‘Masterclass’. While doing a DTLLS course in 2012-2013, I worked as an ESOL tutor at language courses in London, UK. Since 2012 I have been teaching English via Skype.
In my opinion, one of my basic professional strengths is the balance between being flexible and reasonably demanding: I consider it of vital importance to cater my courses to the individual needs of each student, but this by no means leads to lowering the academic standards. Students’ making good progress in mastering the English language is, naturally, my top priority, and I find it necessary to help my students develop strategies for self-study and independent work, so that they can continue developing their language skills after the course.
