Hello, my name is Julie
I have over 20 years’ experience teaching ESL, including 15 years in Asian countries. In the U.S., I have taught students, their spouses, and refugees from many countries, including Russia. Having learned five foreign languages, I understand how to learn and teach languages. The key is motivation, a lot of speaking and listening practice, and remembering that the goal is communication, not just memorization.
I have a Doctorate in Leadership, a Masters in Cross-Cultural Studies, and a Graduate Certificate in Counseling, as well as extensive training in TESL. I’ve also co-authored ESL curriculum published and used in Asia.
What I do in my lessons: Informal conversation; Specific conversation topics; Grammar and pronunciation development in the context of sentences and natural speech; Teach new vocabulary and idioms to broaden language skills. I will correct mistakes as we go along, typing the corrections so you can see, practice and review them. I will also encourage you—you are brave to learn another language! You will enjoy learning in a relaxed atmosphere, as I design each lesson according to your needs and interests. I specialize in Conversational Skills, Business English, Cross-Cultural Communication, and IELTS/TOEFL Preparation.
