It is commonly known that Christmas plays as an important role in the English-speaking countries as New Year in Russia. People tend to prepare beforehand for this special time of the year, buying presents, hanging up stockings on a fireplace and cooking Turkey, a traditional English dinner on Christmas.

There is a great number of songs, poems and feature films which are connected with this holiday. The arrival of Santa Claus, the bringer of gifts, falls on the night from the 24th-25th of December. In this regard, marvelous opportunities are open to start studying English online or independently either for children or adults.

The performance of Christmas songs and poems, cards making and creation of projects bring us to a new cultural world. It is safe to say that the most popular song on Christmas is so called ‘Jingle Bells’ and its official name is ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’:

Besides this song, there are “12 Days of Christmas” and “Silent Night”. The information about these songs can be found on WIKIPEDIA:

And “The Letter to Santa” enjoys improbable popularity and it appears to be in great demand among children, teenagers and even adults both at English classes and English via Skype

The great fans of British cinematography can also be interested in movies like “Bridget Jones`s Diary”, “Real Love” where the winter subject creates a special atmosphere along with an admirable work of the professional cast. And the plot of the movie “Holiday on an Exchange” is based on the British-American context.

No matter what Christmas movie, song or exercise you are going to choose, the most important is to keep up with a festive mood as it makes your process of learning the English language easy and interesting!

Happy New Year, Merry Christmas and a great luck in studying English in new 2012!
